Craig Anderson

Guitar Instructor, MacPhail Center for Music

A guitar instructor with 30 years of experience teaching rock, pop, jazz, and blues music to guitar students ages 13 to adult.  Patient and kind with students, using an innovative and largely self-developed curriculum.  Author of six guitar instruction books including Major Scales and Music Fundamentals for Guitar, Blues & Rock Guitar Improvising Using the Pentatonic Scale, and Harmony for Rock, Pop, and Jazz Musicians

Full-time teacher at MacPhail Center for Music in Minneapolis.  Past teaching at The Blake School, Henry High School, Edina High School, Inter District Downtown School, The West Bank School of Music, My Music Store, and substitute classroom teacher at Music Tech / McNally Smith College of Music.

Teaches individual guitar lessons and guitar ensembles.  Former Chair of the Guitar Dept for 19 years, former Coordinator of the Certificate Program for Performance Achievement for 16 years, and former Coordinator of Classes and Ensembles for 23 years.

20-year professional performing career playing rock, pop, blues, R&B, and jazz electric guitar with the Bernie Edstrom Group, Mick Sterling & the Stud Bros, Little Anthony and the Imperials, The Drifters, and hundreds of commercial music jobbing gigs. 

Bachelor of Arts degree from Augsburg College and life-long learning.  He's been mentored by a MacPhail colleague and in turn has instructed 22 MacPhail faculty and staff.
